It functions as a binder for cements and mixes, solvent, emollient, pharmaceutical agent, sweetening agent, intermediate in manufacture of soaps and detergents, lubricant in oil and gas fields, wetting agent in pesticide formations, humectant, plasticizer, in blacking processes, in keeping fabric pliable, and to preserve printing on cotton.
