NOVEL FEATURES OF THE ARCHITECTURE INCLUDE A ROTATING, MULTI-FREQUENCY SONAR REMOTE SENSING ARRAY, A PATH PLANNING ALGORITHM WHICH DOES NOT RELY ON APRIORI DATA, AND A DISTRIBUTED CONTROL SYSTEM.
