A reciprocating test rig has been made so that the frictional force between a part of a piston ring and a section of cylinder liner can be measured for various operating conditions. In this study, four cylinder liners were honed with different feed rates so that the honing angle was different for each. Friction measurements indicated that the liner with a 60 degree honing angle was best for the particular set of test conditions. The ring-liner contact was flooded with lubricant and the static load was 20N with a dynamic load of 4N applied at the top-dead-center position.
