This paper presents an experimental model of ceramics grinding. The emphasis has been on the material removal mechanisms involved in the grinding process of ceramics with different microstructures. The major efforts have been concentrated on single-point diamond grinding testing. Surface cracks, micro-plastic deformation and recrystallization occurring in ceramics grinding have been observed and studied with a scanning electron microscope. The experimental model has been described in terms of three regions: brittle fracture, non-elastic deformation, and residual damages.
