The objective of this paper is to develop a usable model for grinding wheel wear to predict what happens during creep feed sidewall grinding. In this model, the grinding wheel wear is found to be related to the stress and the local radius of the grinding wheel. The applied stress, caused by the applied forces on the wheel, are assumed to be proportional to the material removal rate per contact area or the maximum normal infeed rate. Experimental results show fairly good agreement with the modeling. This model is useful in slot and sidewall creep feed grinding to prevent workpiece burn and increase accuracy of workpiece surface finish.
