Research has been conducted on the effectiveness of vitrified CBN wheels during super high speed grinding (SHSG) in relation to workpiece integrity. The analysis utilized a newly engineered device to analyze the surface temperature during grinding and x-ray diffraction to measure material stress after grinding. The test demonstrated some of the additional advantages associates with SHSG, such as higher quality workpieces, lower residual stress and higher fatigue strength attributed to heat load reduction while grinding.
