A computer program is described for simulation, calibration, and optimization of cylindrical grinding processes. The simulation part of the software is designed to predict what happens during the grinding cycle and the final part quality. However, discrepancies occur between the simulation predictions and actual grinding behavior mainly due to error in machine setup and inaccuracies in the physical grinding models upon which the simulation is built. Calibration is used to improve the simulation predictions by correcting the input parameters and tuning the grinding models. After calibration, optimization methods are used to identify grinding and dressing parameters to minimize cycle time.
