The ultimate goal of a tool designer is to manufacture tools which have a high resistance against tool failure, longer operating life, and higher efficiency in machining operations. The drilling process is one of the machining operations that is widely used in the manufacturing industry. In order to investigate correlation between tool wear and stresses in the tips of twist drills during the drilling process, stress distributions in the drill tip were studied using finite element method. PATRAN as pre/post processor and ABAQUS as a tool of finite element analysis were utilized.
