As the development of new composites and advanced materials continues, new methods for machining these materials must be explored, developed and implemented. The implementation of current abrasive waterjet (AWJ) technology has been limited to large companies who can afford the high initial cost of installation and the cost of single-use abrasive media consumption, and disposal. Efforts are being made to make the advantages of AWJ technology more accessible--even to the smaller support shops (who currently rely on the slow EDM process to satisfy their machining requirements in advanced materials)--by providing low-pressure abrasive suspension jet machining technology.
