An orbital forging process of large disks with a rocking die is simulated by a finite element method using an axi-symmetric approximation. In this process, disks with a hole at the center are formed from rings with a small loss of material. To attain a realistic computing time for the simulation, the orbital forging process with rocking and fixed dies is modeled as an axi-symmetric one with dies having the same cross-sectional shapes. Using the calculated results, the orbital forging process is designed in order to avoid the occurrences of defects.
