In this paper, I propose an obvious yet new approach to tackle the question of how to educate tomorrow's manufacturing engineer. After a brief discussion of some of the most prominent problems in today's engineering education it will be argued that it may be well worth the effort to apply engineering principles to this problem as well, i.e., it will be demonstrated how design procedures may be utilized to design a new engineering curriculum, and where the advantages and limitations of this approach are located.
