This paper studies the differences between Japanese and US production engineering methods and suggests that proper mixture of both will be the best for education of useful production engineers. Generally, Japanese prefer standardization and practical solutions. Americans think more about creative ideas and theoretical analysis. Cooperative studies between universities and companies and lectures by practically experienced professors attract students and are good for education. The present condition in Japan that experienced production engineers in companies have few opportunities to get professor post must be changed.
