At Arizona State University, a graduate capstone course has been created that allows a fully empowered team of 4-6 students to create a complete computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) plan for a small business in the Phoenix area in the span of 15 weeks. The students begin the course with an overview of the company and introductions to the company's management team. They are not told what to do and they are not told how to do it. The team is responsible for all interviewing, problem formulation, strategy formulation, semester timeline, intermediate deliverables and final presentations.
