STUDIES WERE CONDUCTED TO CORRELATE IN-VIVO AND IN-VITRO BOND STRENGTHS OF FOUR NEW ADHESIVE SYSTEMS. THE GOAL WAS TO DETERMINE IF IN-VITRO TESTS COULD PREDICT BOND STRENGTHS ON NEW ADHESIVE SYSTEMS. THE SYSTEMS EVALUATED WERE: 304 STAINLESS STEEL TO SILICONE TUBING; 90% PLATINUM - 10% IRIDIUM TO SILICONE TUBING; AND TWO PROPRIETARY PLASTIC TUBINGS TO SILICONE TUBING. RESULTS SHOWED A CORRELATION BETWEEN IN-VITRO AND IN-VIVO BOND STRENGTHS IN THREE OF FOUR SYSTEMS. THE PERFORMANCE OF THE 90% PLATINUM - 10% IRIDIUM WAS NOT PREDICTED BY IN-VITRO TESTS. IN-VITRO TESTING PROVIDES INSIGHT INTO ADHESIVE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE, BUT IN- VIVO TESTING IS NEEDED TO DETERMINE ACTUAL PERFORMANCE.
