This Standard Practice covers thedimensions which define the interface betweendrilling/tapping machine adapters and tappingvalves; including clearances for the pilot drilland cutter. This 'interface' or 'connectingjoint between tapping machines and tappingvalves' will be abbreviated as 'joint' in thisStandard Practice. The positioning recess andmating raised face of the connecting flanges orend connections, between machine adaptersand tapping valves, serve to ensure properalignment of the machine adapter onto thetapping valve, without affecting the strength ofthe joint. Only flanged, mechanical joint,push-on, asbestos-cement, and radialcompression connections are included withinthis Standard Practice.
