A year-long ultraviolet (UV) hydrogen peroxide (UV/H2O2) study was conducted using a 208-L/min (55-gpm) pilot with low-pressure and medium-pressure UV reactors. Twosurface water process streams of differing organic content were used in the study, and UV doses were based on the 80 percent degradation of atrazine and 55 percentdegradation of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE). Low and medium pressure lamptechnologies also were compared. Biofilm potential was evaluated by comparingassimilable organic carbon (AOC) concentration and biofilm growth on couponsfrom annular reactors that simulated distribution pipe velocities. Biofilm growth onthe coupons was measured by heterotrophic plate count (HPC) and adenosinetriphosphate (ATP) concentration as quantified by chemi-luminescence. Biofilmpotential differed between lamp technologies, but the magnitude of that differencedepended on the evaluation tool utilized. Includes 7 references, table, figures.
