The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is in the process of implementing pilot contamination warning systems at multiple drinking waterutilities. The insight gained from these efforts has identified several practical and low cost activities autility could perform to significantly increase their level of preparedness, when responding to andevaluating a potential contamination incident. The objective of this poster presentation is to highlightsome of these low cost actions. The recommendedpreparatory activities focus on the following activities:initiate outreach and communication to the other organizations participating in a potentialhazardous contamination event;set roles and responsibilities with these organizations and practice contamination responseevents;actively monitor the components that would likely warn the utility of a contamination event; and, build awareness of the laboratory capabilities that are present in your locality and establish alaboratory network.
