This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the options for controlling Cyanobacteria. A Water Research Foundation report is presented titled "Alternative and Innovative Methods for Source Water Management of Algae and Cyanobacteria", which undertakes an experimental evaluation of alternative methods or options under the categories of: alternative algaecides; algaestats; mixers; ultrasound; and, hybrid ultrasound/ozone algaecide system. Copper algaecides are presented, including copper sulfate. A study on the comparison of algaecides is presented that had the following objectives: test effectiveness of commercially availablealgaecides e.g. Cupricide® (chelated copperalgaecide) and PhycomycinTMSCP (HydrogenPeroxide), relative to copper sulfate; and, determine effective dose rates for variousalgaecides under different conditions to allow fora cost comparison between algaecides. Effective toxicity of compounds was assessed in bioassayswith laboratory culture strains at 24, 48 and 72 hours aftertreatment. The assessment methods include: cell loss from cell counts; and, cell integrity and viability assessment. Includes figures.
