The photolysis of monochloramine (NH2Cl), dichloramine (NHCl2), and trichloramine(NCl3) was investigated with several different collimated ultraviolet (UV) sources, including:low-pressure Hg; a KrCl excimer lamp; and a XeBr excimer lamp. The results indicate thatall three inorganic chloramines can be degraded under the UV irradiation, and the dynamicsdepend on the wavelength of UV irradiation. The products of photodecay of chloramineswere identified and quantified as nitrate, nitrite, nitrous oxide and ammonium. Based on theresults, a mechanism of photodecay of monochloramine is proposed. Includes 9 references, table, figures.
