Ultraviolet (UV) light disinfection can be an effective means of controlling microorganismsdue to its ease of use, small space requirement, lack of chemical carryover, and decreasedchemical hazard concerns. In this study, a modified mixing regime is investigated for itsinfluence on UV disinfection effectiveness in turbid slurries. A new baffle design providesbeneficial UV exposure even in slurries of 10% to 15% starch solids. Includes 3 references, figures.
