A standardized monitoring station has been developed to solve the problemsof obtaining representative water samples from water distribution systems. With itsability to control influencing factors on water quality, the station serves as anexperimental apparatus and incorporates the most advantageous features of existingmonitoring methods, including the following: Lead and Copper Rule sampling; standard and mini-pipe loopapparatuses; and, pipe film and scale analyses. The monitoring station has been foundto be an accurate surrogate for residential sampling in the distribution system and is veryhandy for off-line chemical testing. Several water quality and regulatory issues can beaddressed with the standardized monitoring station. On-going use of the station forcollecting water quality data from a distribution system provides a means to utilize thetechniques of industrial quality control and process improvement.
