This paper presents a new high rate ballasted flocculation technology operating at very lowflow rates. This pilot unit was optimized thanks to the Computational Fluid Dynamicsmodeling of the mixing tanks and settling zone. Once validated, the design unit is comparedin terms of turbidity reduction to a full scale unit installed in the L'Assomption DrinkingWater Plant (23600 m3/d , Quebec, Canada). The full scale unit operates with a 99% turbidityreduction, the pilot unit with a 1.44m/h allowed to reach 98% of turbidity reduction with arise rate of 40m/h. Includes 10 references, tables, figures.
