Water Quality Laboratories are continually being faced with additional workload and new regulatoryrequirements, which often require doing more with fewer resources due to tight budget constraints.Since increasing the Full Time Equivalents (FTE's) human resources was not an option, thelaboratory turned toward laboratory automation to handle the increased workload. The LaboratoryAutomation project included creating a detailed request for proposal that was sent to several LIMSvendors that resulted in the selection of a successful vendor and the subsequent acquisition of anew Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), integration of our instruments and theaddition of rugged, portable hand held devices for field data collection.
