This slide presentation outlines The Aesthetic Water Quality Challenge which includes:rising customer expectations for taste,odor, and appearance;equated to healthfulness of the water;limited aesthetic water quality data,operational information, or complaint tracking;how to understand/address issues;consumers reluctant to pay more forwater not meeting aestheticrequirements; and,especially problematic when constructingnew treatment and need rate increase. The presentation outlines a case study in Colorado of the Consolidated Mutual Water Company and covers topics that include: existing water treatment facilities and background;selection of new water treatment processes;evaluation of taste and odor (T&O) issues; and,status of project. Conclusions were that:aesthetic water quality is very important to customers;many water systems are proactively investing money in T&Ocontrol strategies to meet customer demands;if considering a new plant or future plant upgrade,start tracking T&O issues now and build a history tomake future decision making easier;MIB/Geosmin sampling (routine and during T&O episodes);flavor profile analysis - especially during T&O episodes;characterization of algae; and,track T&O complaints.
