The objectives of this study were to assess the kinetics of sequential adenovirusinactivation with ultraviolet (UV) followed by chlorine (both combined and free), and to investigatethe level of synergy associated with sequential application as a function of pH andtemperature. An additional goal is to characterize the molecular mechanisms of acombination of disinfectants that are responsible for synergy being observed at eachcondition. Specifically, the study utilized Southern Blot DNA analysis to detect and measureviral DNA replication in host cells after being treated by single and sequentialdisinfection. Includes 13 references, figures.
