The objective of this study was to assess the effects that parameters such as buffertype (carbonate and phosphate), ionic strength, alkalinity, hardness, pH and temperature haveon the inactivation kinetics of MS2 phage with free chlorine. This paper focuses onexperimental results obtained for the inactivation kinetics of MS2 phage in synthetic water(phosphate buffer solutions) with single-step free chlorine as a function of bufferconcentration, pH and temperature. The materials and methods include a discussion of: water source; preparation of MS2 phage stock; experimental matrix; determination of free chlorine concentration and CT values; free chlorine disinfection procedure; and, MS2 phage viability assessment. Includes 7 references, figures.
