A solid phase extraction (SPE) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometer (GC/MS)isolation and detection method for N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), and other selectednitrosamines in various water matrices (potable water, raw source water, reclaimed water, andwastewater) is described. This work was performed as part of a larger project funded by theWateReuse Foundation, entitled "Low Cost Analytical Methods for Measuring NDMAConcentrations," in developing methods for nitrosamine analyses. Interest in testing for NDMA, aprobable human carcinogen, at low ng/L levels stems from recent concern over the concentration ofNDMA in various water supplies. The method described in this paper was shown to effectivelyquantify NDMA and other nitrosamine compounds at or below a 1-ng/L minimum detection limit(MDL). This method was also shown to accurately quantify nitrosamine concentrations in potable, secondary and tertiary effluent water samples with excellent precision. Includes 9 references, tables, figures.
