Customer service is a high priority for the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) and the Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD). Recently, a customer complaint regarding copper corrosion underwent an extensive investigative and analytical program. The customer asserted that the water they received contained sand that scoured their copper pipes causing their water to turn green and appear in residents' bathtubs. Through water quality analysis, Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, and digital photomicrography, the SNWA and LVVWD reassured the customer that the water they receive at the meter meets all federal drinking water standards, and their corrosion issues were likely created by their on-site treatment system. Since then, the customer has taken measures to remedy the problem and the green water episodes have subsided. Includes 2 references, tables, figures.
