The Southern California Water Company (SCWC) provides drinking water to 6,000 residents of the Yorba Linda System in Orange County, California. The source of waterfor the system is from the local groundwater basin through one active well. In October 1998, methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) was detected in this well at 3.2 ug/L. This paper discusses the investigation which followed to identify the portion of the aquifer contaminated by MTBE and to propose short-term solutions to mitigate the contamination. Includes 8 references, table, figures.
