Two coliphage methodologies, Method 1601 (enrichment method) and Method1602 (single agar layer enumeration method) were field tested for groundwater screening for indicators of fecal contamination. Groundwater samples used for the studywere obtained from 17 shallow public water supply wells located within vulnerable aquifers along the US-Mexico border near El Paso, Texas. The collected samples were screened for the presence of somatic and male specific coliphages and for the presence of bacterial indicators, E. coli and enterococci. Includes 10 references, tables.
