The bench scale testing of microfiltration (MF) using a pilot unithas been conducted to recover backwash water from filters used in drinking water production. The results have shown that MF can be used for the recovery of backwash water. Size exclusion membrane processes have been shown to recover backwash water in a laboratory investigation. A cost estimate for applying size exclusion membrane processes such as MF and ultrafiltration (UF) to the treatment and recovery of filter backwash water has been developed and indicates recovery of backwash water by size exclusion membrane filtration is economically feasible. Includes 4 references, tables, figures.
