The objective of this paper is to give an overview of the capabilities of the CFD tools to account for the different physical and chemical phenomena occurring in the ozone contacting systems. Conventional ozonation chambers equipped with fine bubble porous plate diffusers are studied. The numerical modeling approach and the respective experimental data obtained on each reactor describes accurately the hydrodynamics of the two-phase gas-liquid flow and to evaluate the efficiency of ozone mass transfer in each case. This work demonstrates that CFD modeling is a useful tool to characterize the hydrodynamics and mass transfer efficiency in different full-scale ozonation reactors and to propose an upgraded design to achieve higher performance. Includes 11 references, tables, figures.
