This paper evaluates, using pure metal coupons, the impacts of pH and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) on lead and iron corrosion. The investigation was performed over a 150-day period. The coupon cells were operated in a batch mode using plant finished water that was chemically adjusted to targeted values. Graphical, statistical and gravimetric evidence is presented to ascertain which combination of pH and/or NaHCO3 simultaneously reduces lead and iron leaching. Impacts on other water quality parameters such as turbidity, chlorine residual, etc., are also described. Includes 7 references, tables, figures.
