The objectives of this project were to characterize recycle practices at six BHC Company surface water treatment plants in Connecticut and to study water quality impacts. The scope of the project entailed examining existing recycle water quality data, understanding site specific backwash and recycle practices, and conducting on-site sampling and analysis to examine water quality impacts. Water quality assessment involved characterizing recycle water, raw water, mixed plant influent and downstream process waters (i.e., clarified and filtered waters). Water quality parameters included pH, temperature, total suspended solids, turbidity, particle counts, and total and dissolved fractions of organic carbon, aluminum and manganese. Includes 10 references, figures.
