This study examines the use of mercury-gold amalgam microelectrodes to determineFe2+ and Mn2+ sediment porewater concentration gradients in Carvin's Cove, a water supplyreservoir for Roanoke, Virginia. Oxygen diffuser lines were installed near the treatment plantintake to replenish oxygen levels in the raw water during seasonal stratification of the reservoir.The goal of this project was to monitor Fe and Mn sediment flux as a function of oxygenation ratein the reservoir.
