To add to the understanding of, and clarify the issues surrounding the safe andeffective use of household graywater, the Water Conservation Alliance of SouthernArizona conducted an in-depth study of residential graywater reuse in the greaterTucson area of the Southwest United States. The study, supported by the ArizonaDepartment of Water Resources, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, andthe Pima County Department of Environmental Quality, looked at two separate aspectsof graywater usage in the region: survey of households currently using some portionof the graywater they generate; and, testing the water quality of the residentialgraywater being generated and how that water quality affects the soil that is irrigatedwith that water.
