In order to efficiently implement plans and policies for the management of water demand, it is essential to adopt planning and operational procedures for maintaining the established reliability. Some indicators can help to make the appropriate assessment and changes, those proposed in this paper focus on the planning of the systems and drought management procedures. Indicators for supply capacity and permanent and temporal demand elasticities are described. The paper highlights the method used to calculate them and their interaction along with the necessary changes to incorporate these indicators to the operational procedures every time a new achievement of demand reduction is achieved. If no changes are implemented there will be a higher risk of non-fulfillment of established reliability. Includes figures.
