This project studied the influence of different corrosion control programs on corrosion rates, and the short-term effects of various levels of corrosiveness on bacterial water quality in model distribution systems. Corrosion rates were strongly related to water temperature. Consequently, corrosion control would require the maintenance of slightly higher corrosion inhibitor concentrations during summer and possibly lower dosages during winter months, rather than using a constant dose over the entire year. Over a one-year period, bacterial water quality data were similar in new pipes receiving waters with different corrosiveness, suggesting that corrosion impacts on bacterial water quality have to be evaluated over longer periods of time.
