Soil aquifer treatment (SAT) systems are by far the most widely used method for groundwater recharge and municipal waste removal. The overall objectives of this study were to evaluate the organics removal efficiency of SAT systems and systematically evaluate the effects of soil type and effluent pretreatment on SAT. These objectives included the characterization of organic carbon removal during soil aquifer treatment and the disinfection byproduct potential of organic carbon. The impact of ozonation on biodegradable organic carbon (BDOC) was also studied.
