The Minneapolis Water Works (MWW) serves a population of nearly 500,000 in and around the City of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The sole source of water supply for MWW is the Mississippi River. The MWW produces an average of 70 million gallons of water per day but peak summer rates may be as high as 180 million gallons per day. The quality of the water is assured and controlled throughout the various stages of treatment by plant and laboratory tests. Although the city's water system continues to meet current drinking water regulations, industry trends and public health concerns require that the city improve its treatment facilities. This paper discusses the results and recommendations of a Treatment Process Feasibility Study conducted for the MWW.
