The present study investigates the use of crossflow membrane filtration for the removal of natural dissolved organic matter (DOM) from water. It examines the impact of DOM such as humic materials on the membrane permeate flux due to membrane fouling and concentration polarization effects. The research investigates the integration of coagulation/flocculation with membrane filtration for removing color and turbidity. Furthermore, the study discusses a two-layer membrane transport model that qualitatively explains the effects of concentration polarization and fouling on the steady-state permeate flux.
