This slide presentation outlines a project by Central Arkansas Water (CAW) to replace or upgrade its computer information system (CIS). A brief overview of CAW is given along with a history of the current CIS. The decision process to upgrade or replace included: looking into thepossibility of extendedS&S maintenance;determining a realistictimeline for successfulimplementation of analternative solution; and,evaluating enQuesta todetermine if it was anacceptable option forCAW. Business and technical lessons learned are outlined, along with aspects that positively affected the business. The presentation provides an overall summary of lessons learned that includes: don't wait too long toupgrade your current CISapplication; updating your current business processeshelps to ensure a smooth upgrade or transitionto a new CIS solution; build managementconsensus andmaintain involvement; dedicate a skilledteam to the upgradeor replacement; and, stay informed byestablishing and maintaining good vendor relationships,attending regional and national conferences,being aware of industry trends; and,network with peers.
