The Water Utility staff of the City of Laredo recognized that their Jefferson Street WTP should be capable of producing more needed water. Camp Dresser & McKee Inc. determined that the key issue to maximizing the potential of the plant was increasing the capacity of the filters to match that of the existing clarifiers. With appropriate upgrading of the filters and minor improvements to other process units, the capacity of Plant No. 2 will be increased from 18 MGD to 52 MGD for approximately $.25 per MGD increase. The additional capacity also allowed the City of Laredo to indefinitely postpone the building of the new plant.
