The objectives of this paper are as follows: relate metal composition of six different brass alloy coupons to composite metal leaching levels from the coupons; evaluate the effect of pH and PO3-4 concentration on composite metal leaching from the brass alloy coupons; evaluate the effect of pH and PO3-4 concentration on metal leaching from pure lead, copper, zinc, and 40:60 Pb:Sn solder coupons; and relate composite metal leaching levels in brass coupons to metal leaching from the pure metal coupons. All tests will be conducted using Cincinnati tap water. The objectives will be met by statistically and graphically analyzing data collected over the duration of the study. Because of the number of variables to be tested, it is too early to attempt an in-depth interpretation of the data. A complete interpretation will be done when the studies are completed. This paper takes an exploratory approach and by no means suggests that Cincinnati tap water is representative of other drinking waters.
