The main objectives of this study were to examine the impact of background natural organic matter and four different preoxidants on GAC adsorption capacity and kinetics. The specific objectives were: 1) quantify total organic halogen concentrations preadsorbed onto the preloaded GAC samples; 2) determine the adsorption capacity of the preloaded GAC with respect to a target compound; and 3) assess the attenuation of a target compound pulse (i.e., shock loading) by the preloaded GAC.
