This research proves that a relatively simple radium analysis procedure, EPA Method 900.1, the Gross Radium Alpha Screening Procedure, can be used for accurate and precise 226RA analysis. The research emphasizes sampling and analyses of groundwaters drawn from the Hickory Sands Aquifer in Central Texas. Generally, these waters are contaminated with both 226RA and 228RA in excess of the proposed MCLs of 20 pCi/L, and existing 5 pCi/L, for each radiosotope.
