The purpose of the project described in this paper was to replace outdated pumps and drivers at the Florence Water Treatment Plant, (Omaha, Nebraska); isolate standby equipment from other pumping facilities for true standby capacity; and to alleviate low service pumpage problems at low river levels. The modification of the intakes and pumps provided a reliable capability to treat 60 mgd of Missouri River Water regardless of river level (ice jam) and availability of electric power. It also provides an alternative fuel source for base loading the high service pumping units at a substantial annual savings.
