The Waterworks Engineers Branch of the City of Vancouver Engineering Department (City) contracted CH2M Hill Engineering Ltd. (CH2M Hill) to develop a comprehensive water system plan in 1989 for a 50 year planning period (to the year 2040). Part of this effort included the development of a computerized hydraulic model of the City's water distribution system and the portion of the regional transmission system from which it feeds. Residential water use was identified as a major determinant of design water demands. This paper focuses on the methodology used to develop and allocate the City's water system demands for the model.
