American Water Works Company, Inc. pursues an aggressive program of capital improvements designed to keep pace with regulations promulgated to insure water quality, environmental protection, service territory expansion, and necessary plant replacement. In 1987, the Company embarked on a comprehensive program to review and update the contract documents which it administers for these capital improvement projects. This paper discusses the reasons for selection of the Engineers Joint Contract Documents Committee (EJCDC) Construction Documents for their base documents as well as revisions to the EJCDC documents necessary to be consistent with the policies and practices of the Company.
