Elevated potable water storage is a basic necessity in almost all water distribution systems. Many system personnel do not understand fully the study and design parameters utilized in determining the volume and placement of these tanks. Following a relatively simple data collection methodology, personnel can asses, in at least a cursory manner, the adequacy of their existing storage tanks and can determine whether additional storage is warranted and where the most beneficial site(s) should be located.
